so i found myself in this bar last night listening to some live bands with my roomate and her cousins. that in itslef is fine...apart from it was painful music...
the band we were there to see was having its i'm-on-the-cusp-of-greatness tour around bc...apparently. at least that word "cusp" kept coming up a lot. so obviously there were going to be opening bands...another unfortunate experience. never found out there name but thre was a lot of high pitched screaming...literally...no words. and the fastest head bobbing i've ever seen. i'm not surprised later that the lead singer walked around with a pillow on his head the rest of the night. come to think of it there were a lot of pillow themes...pillows were being thrown around too. strange n'est pas?
then the chick version of the screamy-ness came on next...a little better but still by the end of the 6th song it was just like throwing a sac of cats against a wall (monica was on to something there) they were called cadeaux...i can think of better gifts.
then finally THE band appears...and i will say that they were much better than the previous two bands...but as i looked around at the band, at the followers, and the rest of the people who just happened to show up...it was like all the people who were the geeks back in highschool were now there in the lamplighter pub. i stood there amazed...tight taper-legged jeans, value village tops on the 'cusp' of vintage...those butterfly stretch belts that even the nurses won't wear anymore...i even saw one guy make tape on his glasses look hot! what has happened?! it was mesmerizing...had i stepped into a parrellel universe...
or could it be that geek really IS the new cool?

...into the arms of a bear!
goodbye salty tongue...
this deli chick has sliced her last.
i hope to spend the next week mainly....hanging out with friends, packing, hunting for cheap flights to brazil, and twisting my dreads.
oh and jurrasic 5 is playing at the ski and snowboard festival this week up in whistler...so you know where i'll be. there is also a photo exebition up there from local photographers...so i'm excited about that too.
it seems that both doors are swinging wide open...one to brazil and one to whistler....so i'm doing my best to inhabit both places...if thats possible. more and more i'm thinking it is. last monday i took the coach up to whistler after work. watched a beautiful sun set over the pacific and made it to whistler in time for the "ibiza in whistler" club night thats held once a year. funny it should happen just after our 24-7 prayer ibiza/whistler get to gether with brian heasley. i guess i thought i should be there and do my bit...
danced up a storm and made it back to the first bus leaving for vancouver at 5:30am...just in time to get to work again. gotta love it. the only hiccup apart from no sleep was running into a bear at 5am ...in the dark...on my own...
and it was a big ass bear too! i freaked out and turned and ran the opposite direction for ages before stopping and looking back to see if it was following me! hard as nails, me. hard as nails!
only in whistler can you step out of a club and...

walkin the line
as i'm preparing for my exodus out of vancouver i've found myself balancing on this invisible line. on one side is unahamed hope, idealism and excitement... for whats to come...my dreams and those things so far undreamt but lying somewhere in the deep. this side comes easily and walks in the opposite direction to the mainstream most days. nice.
on the other side is 'reality'... that things never are quite as we dream them to be initially...either because of or own projections we put on them or becuase dare i say it...we got it wrong, or becuase of past disappointments, or becuase gods outcome was always going to look a little different from ours?
and a little cinicism creeps in...like a virus.
on one side the potential reality and the other wild exuberant adventure and hope.
most days i find myself battling along this line...usually fighting for the right to dream with hope and creativity...
perhaps one balances out the other...perhaps one kills the other,
it's time for the idealists to rise again...
and with that...i raise my glass to mr. johnny cash, who walked a line of his own once.

a nutshell...
i went to a birthday party today under the cherry blossem trees in stanley park. was fun, apart from it was raining so actually we looked at the cherry blossems from under a huge tree nearby. i marvelled at the technicality of constructing a tarp...a classic case of too many chefs in the kitchen me thinks. ate great frood from not only all the major food groups but also many countries. had a brief freak out moment when i realised that what was in my mouth at that precise moment was ...FROM THE SEA... i'm ok now but it was touch and go there for awhile. happy birthday crys!
reading 'city of glass' by our very own douglas coupland. it's about vancouver and its very funny. if you ever want to know what it's like here and are on a travel budget...the book it cheaper than a flight and you get a good overall glance at my beautiful city. it turns out that he spent some of his life living on the same block as me...douglas coupland, that is. crazy i know. some of you will find that a little more exciting than others i'm guessing.
so, kayaking last weekend, stanley park this weekend, a lot of sandwich-making inbetween, one too many cheesy movies...thats pretty much my week in...
